Texas Motorplex, Dallas (September 21, 2014) – If you love drag racing, but missed the airing of round one of the NHRA Mellow Yellow Countdown to the Championship playoffs at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday afternoon because you had to work? Your Lucky Rabbit’s Foot must be working. Charlotte Motor Speedway race officials had to delay the Pep Boys NHRA Carolina Nationals due to persistent rain showers. Today NHRA officials decided round one would continue during qualifying rounds of next weekend’s AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex near Dallas.

The action continues this Sunday at the Texas Motorplex near Dallas

You still have three rounds of Top Fuel and Funny Car to watch and four pairs of Pro Stock cars still need to complete the first round. Pro Stock Motorcycle competitors still have to compete, as well, so you only missed part of the fun.

Alexis DeJoria raced her way into the No. 1 qualifying spot at Saturday’s Pep Boys NHRA Carolina Nationals at zMAX Dragway

In Pro Stock top drag racers Erica Enders-Stevens and John Gaydosh; Jonathon Gray and Rodger Brogdo; Vincent Nobile and Larry Morgan; and Dave Connolly and Shane Tucker still need to complete their first round runs against each other.

This Sunday J.R. Todd and Spencer Massey; Billy Torrence and Tony Schumacher; Steve Torrence and Leah Pritchett; and Morgan Lucas and Khalid alBalooshi will compete in the Top Fuel quarterfinals.

In Funny Car the quarterfinals will feature Dave Richards vs. John Force; Bob Tasca vs. Ron Capps; Robert Hight vs. Jeff Arend; and Matt Hagan vs. Tim Wilkerson.

ESPN This Week is showing 12 hours of the NHRA US Nationals this weekend from Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis

Do you love to watch the big boys race down the track at 300 mph? ESPN is showing 12 hours of one of the most popular races in the NHRA Mello Yellow Drag Racing Series season on ESPN2 this weekend. This is your chance to enjoy the 60th running of the boys in the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis.

 

Coverage begins at 6 p.m. Friday, with qualifying rounds on ESPN3. Viewers can watch the qualifying rounds of the race on the multi-screen capability of the network. On Sunday viewers can watch qualifying rounds for the Top Fuel and Funny Car classes on ESPN2 starting at 11 a.m. The action culminates on Monday with six hours of drag racing eliminations that are fun and exciting to watch. There will be two sessions on Monday, the first will be telecast on ESPN3 at 11 a.m. and the second will air at 12 noon on ESPN2.

 

Four-time NHRA champion Gary Scelzi will be on hand, along with ESPN’s normal lineup of announcers, to lend a useful comment or two and add a little class to the show. Kyle Busch Looks for First Sprint Cup Series Win at Charlotte Motor Speedway

Kyle Busch will be even happier if he wins the up coming Bank of America 500

Concord, North Carolina (Oct. 12, 2013) – Kyle Busch will be looking to win at the Charlotte Motor Speedway for the thirteenth time during the upcoming Bank of America 500 Sprint Cup Series race on October 12, 2013. His twelve victories at the old track in North Carolina rank him first in Nationwide Series and Camping World Truck Series wins, but he still hasn’t managed to win a Sprint Cup Series race on the legendary 1.5-mile superspeedway in Charlotte.

Kyle recently stated he was looking forward to getting his first Sprint Cup Series win during the Bank of America 500, and taking home a Bruton Smith trophy to put on his mantle.

Kyle is ready to race on October 12 for his chance at a championship

Kyle Busch “That elusive win in the Cup series has eluded us here,” Busch said. “We’ve had a lot of great runs – some second place finishes and third place finishes and a lot of good runs where we’ve led a lot of laps, but in the last run of the race it seems like we’re just a little bit off. But we’re looking forward to Oct. 12 here at the Bank of America 500 and being able to take home one of those nice gold (Bruton Smith) trophies.”

Kyle will need to have a strong Bank of America 500 on October 12, if he wants to make a run at winning the Chase. This race will be the fifth of the ten races included in the Chase, and he’ll need to have a strong position heading into this event. His overall record on this superspeedway gives him a good chance, one would think, but anything can happen out on the track. Once you get out there all previous records get thrown out the window and it’s everybody for himself. He’ll need Lady Luck on his side, if he’s going to be successful.

Kyle certainly knows the value of this race, “You want to get off to a good start (in the Chase),” he said. “Our team, the Joe Gibbs Racing team, obviously has gotten off to a good start. Once you get past the halfway point, that’s sort of when you define the contenders… That’s when you know who you’re going to be racing against for the championship.”

Winner of two Bank of America 500 races and NASCAR legend Dale Jarrett was recently asked if he had some advice to give Kyle Busch on how to win at the old track in North Carolina. “What am I going to tell Kyle Busch about winning here? He obviously knows how to win,” said Jarrett, who was seated in front of all 12 of Busch’s trophies from his Nationwide and Camping World Truck series wins at Charlotte. “He’s, if not the best driver I’ve seen come through the ranks of NASCAR, he’s certainly one of the top three. It’s just incredible what he does with a racecar. What I can offer is that, as much as you can have a good car – he has plenty of talent – but good fortune is probably the best thing you can have on your side.”

Ford Racing Makes Henry Proud in 2011

One hundred and ten years after first Ford racing victory

DEARBORN, Mich., Dec. 15, 2011 – Henry Ford would certainly be proud.

One hundred and ten years after the Ford Motor Company founder brought home a victory in his one and only auto race as a driver, Ford racing teams and drivers around the world brought home victories and championships in the program’s 110th anniversary season.

In Ford’s most visible worldwide programs, Ford Fiesta drivers Mikko Hirvonen and Jari-Matti Latvala of the Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team finished second and fourth in the World Rally Championship after a spirited battle that went down to the final event. The Ford WRC duo captured three wins during the season. In all, Fiesta had its most successful year in rally, capturing 16 regional and national championships worldwide.

In NASCAR Sprint Cup, Ford Fusion driver Carl Edwards ended up in a points tie for the Championship, but lost the tie-breaker (number of wins). Edwards ended up second and Roush Fenway teammate Matt Kenseth fourth in the most competitive NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship in history. In addition, rookie driver Trevor Bayne won the Daytona 500 for the Wood Brothers, capturing Ford’s 600th win at the Cup level.

In NASCAR Nationwide, Mustang scored its first NASCAR win and Ford driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr. captured his first NASCAR Nationwide Driver’s Championship, and helped Ford capture the series’ manufacturer’s title as well.

In NHRA Funny Car drag racing, all five Ford Mustang drivers made the championship playoffs, Ford drivers won 12 times (including Ford’s 200th win in the class), and John Force Racing’s Mike Neff finished fourth and Robert Hight fifth in the championship.

In Rallycross, Ford Fiesta driver Tanner Foust captured the inaugural Global Rallycross Championship and Ford Focus driver Sverre Isachsen captured the European Rallycross Championship, with Foust finishing second. Brian Deegan led a 1-2-3 Ford Fiesta sweep of X Games medals with Foust and Marcus Gronholm.

In off-road racing, Ford continued to showits dominance in desert competition, winning seven total championships in LOORS, Best in the Desert and ABSA Off-Road competition.

In Touring Car, Andy Yan captured the ChineseTouring Car Championship in a Ford Focus, Paul Brown won the SCCA World Challenge GTS title in a Mustang Boss 302S and there were successful winning efforts put forth for Mustang Boss 302R in Grand-Am and Focus in British Touring Car.

NASCAR Returns to zMAX Dragway for NASCAR Night during Bank of America 500

       CONCORD, N.C. (Oct. 8, 2010) – Some of the fastest drivers, car
owners and mechanics ever to turn left will give it their all to go straight
on Tuesday, Oct. 12, as NASCAR Night returns to zMAX Dragway.
       In past NASCAR Night events, more than 100 NASCAR industry personnel
have descended on the Bellagio of drag strips to take their cars down the
concrete quarter-mile. Participants can race anything they wish down the
drag strip, making this a true “run what you brung” event. Previous NASCAR
Night drag racers included NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers Kurt Busch, Kyle
Busch, Greg Biffle and Matt Kenseth; team owner Rick Hendrick; and crew
chiefs Chad Knaus and Lance McGrew.
       “The first NASCAR Night they hosted at zMAX Dragway a couple of
years ago, I told my guys, ‘We’re going to take something that nobody can
beat,'” said Busch, who will compete on Tuesday night. “It’s a lot of fun to
go to one of the best drag strips in the world, right here in our own
backyard, and do some good old fashion, heads-up grudge racing against some
of the guys you compete against in the garage every weekend.
       “We’ll bring our ’70 Dodge Challenger that we raced with at the NHRA
Gatornationals in Gainesville (Fla.) and PINKS All Out at Charlotte earlier
in the year. We’ve put a lot of time and effort into that car and with the
cooler track temperature and night air on Tuesday, we should be able to run
in the low eights (seconds) if we can get it to stick.”
 NASCAR Night is open to the public with gates opening at 4:30 p.m. On-track
action is set for 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Fans can show a ticket to the upcoming
Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Oct. 16 and receive free
admission. Adult tickets are available at the gate for just $5 and kids are
free. All proceeds from ticket sales will go to Speedway Children’s
Charities.

The Chase Is On: NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Live from California

The Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship continues Sunday, Oct. 10, as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races in the Pepsi Max 400 at the 2-mile Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif., and ESPN will have a live telecast. The NASCAR Countdown pre-race show airs at 2 p.m. ET with the race telecast at 3 p.m. The race’s green flag is at 3:16 p.m. ESPN2 will air NASCAR Sprint Cup practice on Friday, Oct. 8, at 3 p.m. and qualifying at 6:30 p.m.
 
ESPN2’s season-long coverage of the NASCAR Nationwide Series continues at Fontana with a telecast of Saturday’s race. NASCAR Countdown airs at 4 p.m. with the race telecast at 4:30 p.m. The green flag flies at 4:46 p.m.
 
Marty Reid will call the action with analysis by Dale Jarrett, the 1999 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion, and two-time champion crew chief Andy Petree. Two-time champion crew chief Tim Brewer will report from the ESPN Craftsman Tech Garage, while pit reporters will be Dave Burns, Jamie Little, Dr. Jerry Punch and Vince Welch.

NASCAR Telecasts Continue to Include Unprecedented Access
 
During ESPN’s telecasts of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, viewers are able to virtually go inside the race teams due to the unprecedented access granted ESPN to in-car communication as well as crew chiefs and team members. Located within the production units in the ESPN TV compound is a radio room in which radio transmissions of all 43 teams in NASCAR races can be recorded during races, allowing producers to be able to lift specific transmissions of any driver or team at any time.In the telecast of Sunday’s race at Kansas Speedway, ESPN viewers were able to listen as driver Kyle Busch, his crew chief Dave Rogers and other members of the team debated on what repairs to make to the car after contact with David Reutimann damaged the car’s rear end. From the ESPN pit studio, host Allen Bestwick and analysts Rusty Wallace and Brad Daugherty commented on the transmissions. As Busch is one of the drivers in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, the decisions were critical as the team tries to win the series championship.
 
 Andretti, Craven, Evernham on NASCAR Now Roundtable
 
Former NASCAR Sprint Cup race winner John Andretti will join NASCAR on ESPN analysts Ray Evernham and Ricky Craven as panelists on NASCAR Now’s weekly roundtable discussion program airing Monday, Oct. 11, at 5:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2. Mike Massaro will host the edition of ESPN2’s daily NASCAR news and information program.
 
Nicole Briscoe hosts half-hour episodes of NASCAR Now airing at 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, Thursday at 6 p.m. and Friday at 8:30 p.m. Briscoe also hosts as NASCAR Now surrounds Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race in Fontana, Calif., with two episodes. The one-hour weekend edition of NASCAR Now presented by 5 Hour Energy airs at 9 a.m. with a preview of that day’s race, while the weekend wrap-up edition airs that night at 10 p.m. Shannon Spake and Marty Smith will report from California while Craven will join Massaro in the studio.
 
 
NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series in Pennsylvania
The NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series races this weekend in the Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, Pa., and ESPN2 will air highlights of qualifying and eliminations. Qualifying action airs Saturday, Oct. 9, at 10:30 p.m. ET, and coverage of eliminations airs Sunday, Oct. 10, at 9 p.m. 
 
The race, which last year celebrated its 25th anniversary, was held in September in the late 1980s and early 1990s, then moved to August a few years ago and now takes a crucial October spot on the schedule as the fourth event of the Countdown playoffs. Maple Grove Raceway has a long history of record performances, including the first side-by-side quarter-mile four-second and 300-mph Top Fuel passes, and the expected cool October climes should offer more of the same.

Charlotte Motor Speedway is once again partnering with the Charlotte Area

beat the traffic and enjoy the Bank of America 500 at the speedway for just

Mac Daddy Dogs Make NASCAR Concession Debut
A new concession item will be added to the menu at Charlotte Motor Speedway
for Bank of America 500 Week. The Mac Daddy Dog is a hot dog encased in
macaroni pasta and pimento cheese, then coated in a panko breadcrumb crust
and deep fried. The fun fair food made its Charlotte Motor Speedway debut at

Legends Million Winner Daniel Hemric in UNOH Southern 150 NASCAR Modified
Race
Daniel Hemric, winner of the largest grassroots race in history, the Legends
Million, will compete in the upcoming NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour
(NWSMT) UNOH Southern Slam 150 during Bojangles’ Pole Night on Oct. 14 as
part of Bank of America 500 Week. Hemric took home an unprecedented $250,000
purse after winning the Legends Million, a one-of-a-kind Legend Car race,
held July 17 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The 19-year-old Kannapolis, N.C.,
native will make his second career start in a NASCAR modified; he raced in a

Custom Cobra Replica Benefitting SCC Displayed During Bank of America 500
Week
In only five days during the August Food Lion AutoFair at Charlotte Motor
Speedway, the team from Tommy Pike Customs in Greenville, S.C., turned a
pile of parts into a custom Cobra replica. During Bank of America 500 Week,
fans can get an up-close look at the high-performance roadster near the
speedway’s main entrance and enter to win the unique vehicle in a
fundraising raffle for Speedway Children’s Charities. Raffle tickets are $25

Jessie James to sing “The Star Spangled Banner” During AAA 400 at Dover International Speedway

DOVER, Del. – Southern pop artist Jessie James will sing the national anthem prior to the start of the “AAA 400” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Dover International Speedway on Sunday, Sept. 26. James’ recent single and upcoming album title, “Boys in the Summer,” was featured on the Billboard charts in several categories this summer, and she’ll also entertain fans with her hit song during pre-race for the AAA 400.
 
The 22-year-old Mercury Records recording artist’s self-titled debut album Jessie James produced the Top 25 pop and Top 20 dance hit, “Wanted” as well as “Blue Jeans,” which was featured on the soundtrack of the film version of the best-selling novel, “Confessions of a Shopaholic.” Besides her musical talents, James is also known for her natural beauty, as Maxim magazine listed her in their Hot 100 list this year.

Let the Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship Begin!

The Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship begins Sunday, Sept. 19, as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races for 300 laps at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, N.H., and ESPN will have a live telecast. The NASCAR Countdown pre-race show airs at noon ET on ESPN2 with the race telecast on ESPN at 1 p.m. The race’s green flag is at 1:15 p.m.
 
Also from New Hampshire, ESPN2 will air NASCAR Sprint Cup practice on Friday, Sept. 17, at 11:30 a.m. and qualifying at 3 p.m. Sandwiched between the on-track action will be the 2010 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup preview, a half-hour program airing at 1 p.m. Friday on ESPN2.
 
Marty Reid will call the action with analysis by Dale Jarrett, the 1999 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion, and two-time champion crew chief Andy Petree. Two-time champion crew chief Tim Brewer will report from the ESPN Craftsman Tech Garage, while pit reporters will be Dave Burns, Jamie Little, Dr. Jerry Punch and Vince Welch.  
NASCAR Countdown from the ESPN pit studio will be hosted by Allen Bestwick with analysis by 1989 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion driver Rusty Wallace, three-time champion crew chief Ray Evernham and Brad Daugherty, a team owner in the series. The studio team will interact with the booth during the telecast of the race.
 
 
NASCAR Star Kyle Busch Featured in New All-Access ESPN2 Series
 
A new and highly innovative five-part television series featuring NASCAR star Kyle Busch will air on ESPN2 the week of Sept. 13-17 to help kick off ESPN’s live coverage of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship.
 
Riding Shotgun: Kyle Busch, produced for ESPN by the Emmy Award-winning NASCAR Media Group, will take viewers on a week-long, all-access journey into the life of the driver of the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 18 M&Ms Toyota. Cameras will follow Busch starting with this weekend’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Richmond International Raceway and will continue throughout the week leading into the start of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Sept. 19.
 
The half-hour program, which will require a less than 24-hour turnaround time for production, will debut in prime time on Monday, Sept. 13, at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN2, following the Monday roundtable edition of ESPN2’s daily NASCAR news and information program NASCAR Now. The rest of the week, Riding Shotgun: Kyle Busch will air following NASCAR Now at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, and at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
 
 
Brian Vickers Guest Panelist on NASCAR Now Roundtable
 
NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Brian Vickers will be a special guest and join ESPN analysts Ray Evernham and Ricky Craven as panelists on NASCAR Now’s weekly roundtable discussion program airing Monday, Sept. 20, at 5 p.m. ET on ESPN2. Allen Bestwick will host the edition of ESPN2’s daily NASCAR news and information program.
 
NASCAR Now will expand to one hour on Thursday, Sept. 16, at 5 p.m. as NASCAR drivers Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart and Kyle Busch will join host Nicole Briscoe in the studio to preview the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. Briscoe also will welcome Matt Kenseth on Tuesday, Sept. 14, at 5 p.m. and Kevin Harvick the next day at 5 p.m. The program also airs Friday at 5 p.m. with a wrap-up of that day’s activities at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
 
NASCAR Now will surround Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race at New Hampshire with two episodes that day. The one-hour weekend edition of NASCAR Now presented by 5 Hour Energy airs at 9 a.m. with a preview of that day’s race, while the weekend wrap-up edition airs that night at 10 p.m. Marty Smith and Angelique Chengelis will report from NHMS while Craven will join Briscoe in the studio.
 
 
NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series in Carolina
 
The NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series races this weekend in the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Nationals at zMax Dragway at Concord near Charlotte, N.C., and ESPN2 will air highlights of qualifying and eliminations. Qualifying action airs Sunday, Sept. 19, at 10 a.m. ET, and coverage of eliminations airs at 7 p.m. 
 
The newest facility in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series was an overwhelming success in its 2008 debut and again last year, when it hosted special four-wide exhibition passes in Top Fuel and Funny Car. The event holds a crucial spot on the schedule as the second event of the Countdown to 1 and the race at which teams continue to battle for traction in their title bids.
 
Paul Page anchors ESPN2’s coverage with analysis by 22-time NHRA winner Mike Dunn. Gary Gerould and Dave Rieff report from the pits. Rieff and Dunn host NHRA RaceDay presented by Lucas Oil on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. to set the stage for that day’s eliminations action.
 
Also on Sunday, drag racing fans can see 30 minutes of action featuring the NHRA Get Screened America Pro Modifieds from O’Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis. The program airs at 6 p.m. on ESPN2.
